I saw a pay phone at the Mumbai International airport in domestic transfer lounge. After long arduous journey from the United States, I made a call to Bangalore asking a friend to pick me up from the airport. The operator did not inform me the call rate when I gave my credit card information. I also didnt enquire since a fellow traveller also made a call to Bangalore just before me. So, I assumed nominal rates. When I checked my credit card account few days later, I was shocked to see a charge of $45 for the 2 minutes call from Mumbai to Bangalore. After several calls to the call center, I was informed that the charge was $14 since the call was routed through United States... whatever that means. All I can understand is this is one of the major scams thats running all over the country. So PLEASE PLEASE DONT EVER USE THE PAY PHONE inside the Indian airports.
